Redact names from a PDF (permanently)
If you’re redacting for legal, HR, or medical documents, you need permanent redaction — not a “black highlight” that leaves text recoverable. PDF Redactor renders pages to images and burns the redaction in.
Why this workflow
- Runs locally (no uploads)
- Permanent redaction (not hide)
- Batch folders + report
Step-by-step
- Download and open PDF Redactor (free 7‑day trial)
- Choose “Names” and any other PII types you want to redact
- Run the redaction — a new *_redacted.pdf is created (original unchanged)
- Open the redaction report to review exactly what was removed
FAQ
Does this work on scanned PDFs?
Only if the PDF has a text layer (selectable text). For scanned/image-only PDFs, OCR is required. Use the free text-layer checker to confirm.
Is it safe for GDPR/HIPAA workflows?
It runs locally and produces image-based redactions that destroy underlying text. You still need to review outputs as part of your compliance process.
